Meet our dentists: Dr. Benjamin S. Horton

Dr. Benjamin S. Horton, DDS

Dr. Ben Horton is the fourth generation of dentists in his family.  His great grandfather, Dr. Guy Horton, practiced in Osage, Iowa for more than 40 years. His grandfather, Dr. Philip Horton, practiced in Osage for 20 years and then became an associate professor at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he taught radiology before retiring as Professor Emeritus in 1989.  Dr. Ben Horton’s father is Dr. Douglas Horton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Dr. Ben graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2011.  He is fully trained in the science and dentistry of oral implants and is a fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.  He is a member of the American Dental Association and Linn County Dental Society.

Ben and his wife, Amber, and children, Brynn and Alex, live in Cedar Rapids.   He enjoys golf, tennis, sailing, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Douglas J. Horton, DDS

Dr. Doug Horton is the third generation of dentists in his family. He established his practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1977. Dr. Doug received his Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University in 1972, and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1976.  He then completed a General Practice Residency at University Hospitals in Iowa City where he received training in Hospital Dentistry and IV sedation.  This certificate, as well as significant ongoing training, allow Dr. Doug Horton and his staff to provide IV and oral moderate sedation to help reduce anxiety for our patients.   Dr. Doug remains on staff at the University of Iowa as associate professor of Dentistry at the College of Dentistry.  He is a member of the American Dental Association and the Iowa Dental Association where he has served as various officers; the American Society of Dental Anesthesia; and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.  He has served as chair of the Board of Directors of St. Lukes Dental Health Center,  the ARC Foundation, past president of Linn County Dental Society and past president of the University District of the Iowa Dental Association.  Dr. Doug is active in Cedar Rapids Rotary Club.  He enjoys volunteering for the Community Health Free Clinic and His Hands Free Medical Clinic. He also enjoys sailing, piloting, and spending time with his family.
